Description

The Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888) is an emission nebula around 5,000 light-years away in the constellation of Cygnus (The Swan). Its central star is a Wolf-Rayet star (WR 136) which is ejecting gas as a fast stellar wind. This stellar wind collides with and energizes gasses left over from the star's previous state as a red giant (around 250,000 years ago), leading to the 25 light-year diameter object seen here.

NGC 6888 was imaged between 7 September and 29 November 2019 from my home observatory in the UK.
